Retinol and PHA Treatment Stick | The INKEY List

Use in your PM routine as your treatment step. On cleansed, dry skin, swipe a thin layer directly over areas prone to small, hard bumps or uneven texture. Gently tap until absorbed, then follow with moisturiser. Start with 1–2 nights per week and gradually increase use as your skin builds tolerance.

Follow with: Moisturiser, such as our Bio Active Ceramide Moisturiser. Finish with SPF in your AM routine.

When applying around the eyes, use along the orbital bone only. Avoid the eyelids, lash line and immediate eye area.

INKEY Tip:  Small bumps can be tempting to pick, but this may irritate or damage the skin. Apply the stick consistently and give retinol time to work.

WHAT IS MILIA? Milia are small, hard, white or yellowish bumps that form when dead skin cells and keratin become trapped just beneath the skin's surface. They are harmless and very common, and they most often appear around the eyes, on the cheeks and across the nose. Unlike a whitehead, there is no opening in the skin, which is why they do not respond to squeezing.

WHAT CAUSES MILIA? Milia form when dead skin cells build up and become difficult to shed naturally. Contributing factors can include heavy or occlusive skincare, sun damage over time, and skin that is not exfoliating efficiently on its own. In adults they often appear around the delicate eye area where skin is thinnest.

WHAT CAUSES MILIA IN ADULTS? In adults, milia are usually linked to slower natural skin cell turnover combined with build-up of dead skin cells. Richer creams and heavy eye products can contribute in some people. Supporting your skin's natural renewal with a targeted retinol is one way to help visibly smooth the look of these bumps over time.

IS RETINOL GOOD FOR MILIA? Retinol supports your skin's natural renewal process, which helps minimise the build-up of dead surface cells that contributes to the look of small, hard bumps. Paired with PHA for gentle surface exfoliation, it is a considered approach to visibly smoothing texture. Consistency matters more than intensity, so start with 1-2 nights per week.

HOW DO YOU GET RID OF MILIA? Milia sits beneath the surface with no opening, so they cannot be squeezed out, and picking risks irritation, scarring and damage to the skin. Persistent or numerous milia are best assessed by a GP or dermatologist, who can remove them professionally. For the appearance of everyday small bumps and rough texture, consistent, gentle natural renewal with retinol and PHA can help visibly smooth the skin over time.

MILIA OR WHITEHEADS: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? A whitehead is a clogged pore with a visible opening and is often soft. Milia are firm, sit deeper beneath the surface with no opening, and do not respond to squeezing. If you are unsure, a GP or dermatologist can tell you which you are dealing with.

CAN I USE THIS WITH OTHER RETINOIDS OR ACIDS? No. Do not use in the same routine as other retinoids or exfoliating acids, as this increases the risk of irritation. Learn what not to mix with retinol.

CAN I USE IT DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING? No. Retinol is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

DO I NEED TO WEAR SPF? Yes. Retinol can make skin more sensitive to sunlight. Always finish with SPF in your AM routine.

WHAT IS THE PH? This product is waterless, so has no PH.
