What is Facial Redness?

Important Layering Note
Do not use the 10% Azelaic Acid Serum in the same routine as retinol, AHAs, BHAs or Vitamin C. Alternate instead: 10% Azelaic Acid Serum in your PM routine, retinol or Vitamin C in a separate routine or on alternate evenings. Combining these in the same routine risks over-sensitising the skin and can worsen, rather than improve, redness. Common Myths & Mistakes
The amount of misinformation circulating about facial redness is one of the main reasons people struggle to manage it effectively. Here are the most persistent myths - and what the evidence actually says.
“Redness just means I have sensitive skin.”
Not necessarily. Redness has multiple distinct causes - rosacea, blemish inflammation, UV damage, reactive skin, skincare-triggered irritation - and sensitive skin is just one of several contexts in which it can occur. Treating all redness as sensitivity leads to a specific failure mode: avoiding all actives, which means missing the most effective ingredients available.
Azelaic Acid at 10% is an active - and it is specifically formulated for sensitive and rosacea-prone skin. The 10% Azelaic Acid Serum is dermatologically tested, fragrance-free, and clinically validated on rosacea-prone skin. Being redness-prone does not mean avoiding actives. It means choosing the right ones.
“You should avoid all actives if you have redness.”
This is incorrect, and it is one of the most common reasons people with redness make no progress. The issue is not actives in general - it is the wrong actives, used in the wrong way. “Green-tinted products will make my skin look green.”
The micro-fine pigment particle size in both hero products means they blend completely and invisibly on skin - optically neutralising redness without leaving a visible green tint. The green in our 10% Azelaic Acid Serum comes from micro-fine Gardenia Extract. The green in our Succinic Acid Treatment comes from natural chlorophyll (CI 75810). Both disappear on contact with skin, leaving a visually corrected, even tone. The concern about appearing green-tinged is understandable - but with the right particle size, it simply does not happen.
“SPF makes redness worse because it’s thick and heavy.”
Formulation matters. Heavy, occlusive sunscreen formulas can feel uncomfortable on redness-prone skin - but that is a formulation problem, not an SPF problem. Barrier-related redness is a specific, distinct condition with its own presentation: stinging on product application, heightened sensitivity to previously tolerated products, and a compromised skin surface alongside the redness.
